What's Jiffy or Roottrapper containers
By: Charlie Morse

Jiffy forestry pellets are a little smaller than a Coke can but shaped the same. They are a soil less medium of chopped sphagnum moss held together with a type of biodegradable netting that holds everything together. These Jiffy pellets are placed in patented trays that air prune the seedlings roots by insuring the pellets don't touch and air is circulating around 100% of where the roots will emerge. This technique promotes the growth of many more lateral facing roots inside the pellet than any other technique. You plant the complete Jiffy pellet and all the soil the plant originally grew in, these plants won't know that they have been moved so there is not transplant shock. These lateral roots will be looking for soil, when planted these jiffy pellets literally explode into the topsoil with pent-up energy.

Root Trapper Containers essentially continue the process of developing more lateral roots by trapping the roots instead of air pruning. This is done by roots wiggling into a double spun bound cloth laminated to the inside of the root trapper container and becoming trapped. The trapped root sends a message to the root behind it to send out more lateral roots in an effort to find a place to grow.

This is the newest technology in containerized nursery stock. Morse Nursery is committed to innovation and will continue to push industry boundaries by questioning the status quos to provide high performance plants for wildlife habitat!
